As planets move around the elliptical they form certain angular relationships with each other. These angles, known as aspects, determine the nature of the interaction between the two planets. Aspects listed in the daily updates are exact, marking when the energy has reached its peak. Depending on the planets involved aspects can last for short or very long periods of time and do not need to be exact to have a significant effect.
The Sextile: 60°
Since we have several sextiles happening right now I thought I would share a few thoughts on this particular degree.
Note- the picture above shows the sextiles listed in today’s reading, as well as yesterday’s Mars/Pluto sextile, and tomorrow’s Venus/Saturn sextile.
The sextile brings together two planets that are in complimentary signs with each other. These interactions tend to be beneficial, but can have a Jupitorial effect of going a bit overboard as well. For example, we have the Sun in Gemini, an Air sign, sextiling Jupiter in Aries in, a Fire sign. We all know that Fire needs air to build it up, and without it a fire can be snuffed out. Similarly a fire with too much air can get out of control quickly. The Mutability of Gemini and the initiatory energy of Aries can be something like a spark that creates a wildfire if gone unnoticed. When we have a Pisces/Taurus sextile we can see the beautiful harmony of earth and water that exists along earth’s many shores, or we can see the detriment of the over or under abundance of water if not attended to properly.
The work that exists with a sextile lies in not getting too comfortable, lest one side of the dynamic overtake the other. Use these energies for brief respites and relaxing, but do not sit long in their often temporal nature.
